Olympic high jumper vaults in to inspire Little Athletics fans

OLYMPIC high jumper and former Lidcombe Public student Brandon Starc (pictured) caught up with youngsters at Little Athletics training at Holroyd last week.

Part of Little Athletics Australia’s Coles Community Round, where kids and families participated in fun-filled Coles-inspired activities such as banana relays, shopping basket races and Little Athletics’ version of ‘fashions on the field’, Starc joined in the fun while offering training and nutrition tips to aspiring athletes.

About Holroyd Little Athletics

We were the sixth Little Athletics Centre established in New South Wales and have a long and proud history as a member of the Mid-West Metropolitan Zone and Region 7.

We celebrated our 50th Year this season 2020-2021 on the 13 March, we are proud of our history and all our members that have joined us over the years, families may come and go as the their children change sports or get too old, but the Blue & Gold uniform is still holding it place in a lot of families memories. For those that missed out on a great celebration cake.

What is Little Athletics?

Little Athletics is a uniquely Australian sport for children aged 4-16 years. As the name suggests, it is based upon the sport of athletics (track and field) and the events are specially modified to suit the ages and abilities of children. A wide range of running, jumping, throwing, and walking events is conducted. Little Athletics is the Foundation for all Sports. It offers young people activities and skills that will stand them in good stead for their sporting future. Each year across NSW, approximately 40,000 boys and girls enjoy the activities that Little Athletics has to offer. The track & field based competition is conducted throughout the summer sports season. Events are conducted on a weekly basis by one of our 200 individual centres, and include:

Track
Sprints – 70m, 100m, 200m
Distance – 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3km
Hurdles – 60mh, 80mh, 90mh, 100mh, 110mh , 200mh, 300mh
Walks – 700m, 1100m, 1500m

Field
Jumps – Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump
Throws – Shot put, Discus, Javelin


Holroyd Little Athletics Centre is committed to providing a safe and fun environment for our athletes. Equally important to athletic achievement is the way our athletes and parents participate. The conduct of our athletes and parents is regularly monitored to ensure that our athletes are not exposed to negative conduct on or off the track. We adopt the Little Athletics NSW Code of Conduct and Behavioural Guidelines that are available for you to consider at https://lansw.com.au/codes-of-conduct-and-behavioural-guidelines/


Training

Training for our athletes is offered throughout the season free. Training is conducted by our qualified coaching staff and parent volunteers. If you are interested in assisting with training, please contact our Coaching Co-Ordinator.

Our training is conducted across the events in accordance with the below table, changes to training could occur throughout the season, members will be advised.

NOTE: No Training Public Holidays, Long weekends or Mondays after Championship competitions.
