About Holroyd Little Athletics

The 2019-2020 season commenced on Friday, 6th September 2019.

We were the sixth Little Athletics Centre established in New South Wales and have a long and proud history. Holroyd Little Athletics is a member of the Mid West Metropolitan Zone, and one of the leading clubs having won the Holroyd Shield and Garth Robinson Shield.

Little Athletics is a vibrant, exciting and health-driven sport. It provides lifelong opportunities and experiences to those that join, including good times, travel, lasting friendships and outstanding personal achievement. The focus is on “challenging oneself” and striving to achieve personal goals and learning sound technique across a range of athletic disciplines on both the track and in the field.

Our weekly competition is held on a Friday evening at the Holroyd Sports Ground. We are located on the Corner of Peel Street and Robert Street, Holroyd. The season runs between September and March. The first competition night of the 2019-2020 season was on Friday, 6 September 2019.

First call each Friday night is at 5.45pm. We begin with a warm-up and orientation for the evening before proceeding to a rotating weekly program. We ask that you arrive as close to 5.30pm as possible so that our night commences on time and all athletes have sufficient time to properly warm up and avoid injury.

All registrations MUST be done online. There will be no registrations completed on Friday nights, please following the link to register

Holroyd Little Athletics Centre is committed to providing a safe and fun environment for our athletes. Equally important to athletic achievement is the way our athletes and parents participate. The conduct of our athletes and parents is regularly monitored to ensure that our athletes are not exposed to negative conduct on or off the track. We adopt the Little Athletics NSW Code of Conduct and Behavioural Guidelines that are available for you to consider at http://www.lansw.com.au/Resources/Codes-of-Conduct--Behavioural-Guidelines.

We look forward to seeing you for another great season of athletics.

Don't forget your proof of age for new children and children that haven't been for the last two years. Holroyd Little Athletics is also accepting dual registrations for U/13-U/17 for extra weekend competition and running seniors over 17 years on Friday evenings.

Dual Registration

Dual registration arrangements between Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW will again be in place for athletes in the U12 to U17 age groups. This means that everyone in these age groups registers through the Little Athletics NSW portal, and in doing so, automatically becomes both a Little Athletics NSW member and an Athletics NSW member. In other words, they register only once for an ‘athletics membership’ which covers both arms of our sport.

Through dual registration, a member can participate in the relevant events and activities of both organisations, allowing them to experience the broader world of athletics, while still retaining their links with Little Athletics.

As part of the dual registration process, athletes will be asked to select the Athletics NSW club that they wish to join (from a dropdown list). If anyone needs help determining which Athletics NSW club to choose, they can click here and view a full club listing. Alternatively, if they are still unsure, they can choose not to select any club from the list and allow Athletics NSW to allocate a club for them (this would generally be the club closest to home, or to their Little Athletics NSW centre.

Once registered, participants in the U12 to U17 age groups will receive a ‘OneSport’ registration number/bib that they will wear when competing at both Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW events.

Download a list of the Little Athletics NSW centres that have a relationship with an Athletics NSW club and those that are a OneSport Club, meaning they are a combined Little Athletics NSW/Little Athletics NSW club, catering from Tiny Tots to Masters!

A document containing a number of frequently asked questions about dual registration can be downloaded here.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Location

Our Friday night competition is conducted at Holroyd Athletic Fields located at the Corner of Peel Street and Robert Street, Holroyd (Merrylands).

Parking

Limited parking is available near the amenities block for committee members. Please park in the car park to the left or right down driveway to the other car park. NO PARKING on the grass.

Uniforms

All children must be in full uniform by their 4th week of competition. For further uniform details please look under Uniforms & Registration on this website.

Friday Nights

Come early before 5.30pm. If we are to finish on time, events must start on time. Children must be in the marshalling area and officials in position by 5.50pm. You the parents are our officials. No one is employed to conduct the events for your children. You don’t have to worry about knowing what to do; someone will show you at the event. All the parents have come to the centre with no prior knowledge or expertise in athletics administration or organisation. They all gained their skills from on the job training. There are parents who have been coming for years, they will be happy to assist you with time keeping, track judging or field events. It takes just over 100 people to run the competition here on Friday nights, so please don’t wait to be asked. Volunteer as soon as you arrive or hear the call over the microphone. Parental involvement is a necessity in Little Athletics. Being an official regularly at an event is a good way of making new friends. For those who are keen, there is an opportunity to become a qualified official.

Just a Word of Warning

With all the new people it takes about three weeks before everything is running smoothly, so just bear with us, because officials have to be shown what to do and it takes a little time for the children to settle into the routine. We run a two-week program which means that over a two-week period your child should do all the events for their age group once.

Procedure

At 5.50pm all children will be called to the marshalling area where children line up in their correct age groups with their age managers. (If we have no age managers or officials, then children cannot start Friday night competition). All children will then participate in a warm up before they are directed to their events by the age managers. Athletes are to follow the direction of the age manager throughout the evening. There are 4 age managers assigned to each group before the season starts. Parents who are not age managers are not permitted on to the field unless performing a volunteer role assigned to them. This is a safety measure for all our athletes and volunteers.

Season – Achievement Award

At Holroyd Little Athletics Centre, we allocate competition points for all events each Friday night of Competition during the season. At our end of season awards event, there are Achievement Awards available in all age groups from Tiny Tots to Under 17. These awards are given on the basis on an assessment of:

  • Attendance and participation both on Friday nights and at our inter centre competitions.
  • Behaviour and sportsmanship.
  • Training and commitment to improvement.

We value participation and improvement and these attributes are rewarded amongst our athletes      both throughout the season and at our end of year awards. There are also Centre awards given for outstanding achievements and improvement across the season by our athletes. This includes by athletic achievement and contribution to our culture and sport.

Wet Weather

Friday nights are not cancelled until 5.30pm. Please check our Facebook Page, Webpage or emails for any updates.

Absentees

Should your child be unable to participate on a Friday night due to injuries etc please contact our Records & Ranking Officer or our Recording table so a decision on points can be awarded accordingly.

Alcohol Free Zone

We wish to draw your attention to the fact that Little Athletics is an Alcohol-Free Zone for the duration of competition. We request that you refrain from drinking on Friday evenings and at all carnivals. This is an Association Rule and it is policed.

Smoking

Some athletes are asthmatics or suffer from respiratory problems, we request that all parents refrain from smoking on the field, under the amenities building veranda or stairs or near children during Friday night competition. If you need to smoke, can you please move to the car park area behind the fences.

Canteen

The canteen operates every Friday night with a variety of hot food and snacks. We also offer coffee and cold drinks throughout the evening. To assist us both, please PRE-ORDER and pay for your chosen items of hot food prior to commencement of Friday Night Competition. This will assist the canteen volunteers and avoid disappointment with your menu choices.

The Notice Board

We also have a notice board located on the veranda outside the clubhouse, just before the canteen. This board is updated weekly with current information and upcoming events. There will be flyers at differing times for events and enrolment forms for upcoming events and carnivals. Please try to check these each week.

Cans of Drink on the Field

All cans are to be removed from the field. The council mower is very large and if it runs over a can, it shreds it into sharp slivers that can cause severe injury so please be mindful and remove all cans.

Weekly Update News

Emails should be sent most week, please make an effort to read them. If we don’t receive any emails, please come and see us or email us at [email protected] and we can add you to our email list.
